Nova Build 2015 Session 1

Hello All,

Today was the first official build session for 2015. We had 9 folks show up and started some of the projects for this years event. As always the unstoppable force that is the NOVA Open starts off slow but build in momentum as the months pass.

Any good build session starts with a plan and this was no exception.

These are plans...

We managed to get quite a bit done considering the slow start.

First- all the building stuff had to be taken out of storage and set up in its respective spots for use during the various build sessions.

For Infinity we started working on 40 shipping style containers

Corrugated sides to add realism
For Malifaux we designed new hills for the Badlands tables and a new kind of soft cover

Project TW

Lunch was sandwiches, Chips and Mac'n Cheese!

In other news I have been asked to continue the Dead Zone project from last year. And asked for more details. I have decided to take the up the request so look for that coming up soon.

The second tile complete

Close up. It is supposed to look like it was painted with a spray can by a "survivor"

I have two tiles left for the tutorial. I will explain what I did  to get this far before I do more.

Belated Happy New Year!

Hello All,

Welcome to NOVA Open 2015 building season. January is always a big month as we prepare for the February ticket kick off! Lots of cool stuff going on an to keep up on the latest and greatest I recommend heading over to  Mikes Blog Whisky & 40K. You can also sign up for the News letter by sending an email to novaopen@gmail.com and ask to be put on the list

Here we talk terrain. :)

On January 10, 2015 seven brave souls (including yours truly) headed out into the harsh Virginia winter to  to count, inventory, and re-box all of the stored assets NOVA Open LLC, keeps for the event. We are talking about a HUGE amount of stuff.  Even with seven people it took almost 8 hours to go through it all. (Thanks to all the folks who came out)

Here are the pictures from that day. (see if you recognize anything.)

First we emptied the locker. It filled the entire hall

In both directions

We came up with a pro labeling system (Shipping stickers)

Malifaux- Some designs are more durable than others
Like these (that Mike said were the most solid terrain he could remember seeing)

We found a lot of stuff packed in the wrong boxes

Speaking of boxes check out the new boxes for 2015
These things are massive.

Next we set everything out to count and get photoed for later ID

An infinite amount of Infinity terrain

Just keeps going...

And going.

Almost all the Malifaux terrain fits in a single new box
(Told you they were massive)

40K Narritive

The Train

So many hills

The busted stuff box(es)
We have a lot of fixing to do

Starting to put it away

The Banner Box

Packing Concerns

Looks Pro

Almost done!

As always I am looking forward to the upcoming build sessions as much because they are fun as it is a chance to see people I have not talked to since the last NOVA back in August. I hope to see many of you there.

Secret Weapon- Deadzone Table part 2

A puzzle the wife put together. Unrelated but cool.

Hello All,

Here is an update from last weeks post. I have received my "Scrap Yard" table. It showed up the day after the last post. :)

I have not taken any pictures of it yet.

I have made some progress on the Deadzone table. check it out:

Secret Weapon is a well loved sponsor of the NOVA Open so I figured it would be appropriate here.

The fist tile in progress

Hatch cover detail

Burnt umber and Black oil paint was used to sharpen the lines.

Tile 2 at the air brush step.

Let me know what you think...

New Toys

I finally got my hands on some of my "Tablescapes" from Secret Weapon Miniatures. WOOOT!

In this case it's the Dead Zone 2" by 2" board with cool Display board ring!

Check it out!

Secret Weapon is a well loved sponsor of the NOVA Open so I figured I would be appropriate here.

The Package

Invoice

The contents

The stacking system is really cool and as you can see it keeps parts from rubbing when packed away.

And finally the assembled board.

Zombies  and scaffold added

Just waiting for the 4' by 6 scrap yard to show up.

(Edit: they arrived a few days ago. Pictures up soon)

Till next time
