NOVA Open Terrain Volunteers:
As you all know, the NOVA Open is a small organization. Much
of the money that we earn from admission fees goes into venue and storage
costs. We certainly can’t afford to pay wages to the dozens upon dozens of
people that contribute to a successful event every year. So, understand that I
am not exaggerating when I tell you that I consider the volunteers to be the
lifeblood of the NOVA Open. Your dedication and resolve are what carry us
through to the main event.
I first heard about the NOVA back in 2010. I went to the
event and took some pictures. The next year, my wife and I spend a lovely
(a.k.a. humid as Hell) June evening hanging out in the Brandt’s garage,
gluing sand onto some hills. Thus I became involved in terrain building for the
NOVA. In the last five years, it’s been a joy and an honor to meet all the
enthusiastic gamers that the NOVA attracts. Because of the terrain builds, the
NOVA isn’t just a once a year event for me. It goes on all year long. And it’s
you, the other volunteers, who make the long hours, forfeited Saturdays, and
extensive homework projects all worth it.
Now that terrain building has closed on NOVA Open 2016, I
wanted to just take a minute to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone who
volunteered this year. Your help was invaluable and greatly appreciated. We
couldn’t put on this event without you. But I also enjoyed your company. I hope
to see you all next year for more terrain day fun.
